Vieri clear on Milan’s issues: 'Inter and Juventus have four strikers who can score'

Christian Vieri believes that this current AC Milan side are missing something compared to their rivals in the Scudetto race, in particular in the attacking department.

La Gazzetta dello Sport interviewed Vieri during the international break and in addition to the upcoming game between Juventus and Inter, the former striker spoke about the issues that Milan and Napoli have had recently.

The problems of the two contenders for the Scudetto are of a different nature, namely goals that struggle to arrive and a series of wrong choices. Some extracts from Vieri’s interview on Juventus, Inter, Milan and Napoli have been relayed by Radio Rossonera.

Upon returning from the break, Juventus and Inter will compete in what is the first ‘Scudetto’ clash of the season, even if there are three points up for grabs like in all the other matches. How do you see the game?

“I always think positively. If they win, Inter goes to +5; if Juve wins, they will take the lead on their own: if you don’t try to win a match like this, which one? And if two teams try to win, it’s unlikely that the game will be ugly in the end.

“Correct ranking today? No: Inter are playing great football, beautiful games and the anomaly lies in the points lost to Sassuolo and Bologna: add at least two and the gap becomes more realistic. But Juventus don’t give up, and keeping up with this Inter isn’t easy.

“Compact Juventus, compact football. For me, Inter, Milan and Juventus are obliged to win, but also to play well: they have an extra duty. I would like to see a Juventus that plays better, that in the 95th minute has seven of its players in the opponent’s area trying to kick on goal. Because they can do it and they did it.”

After having addressed the topic of Juventus-Inter, Vieri also spoke about Milan and Napoli , the other contenders for the title but currently further away in the standings than the first two.

What are the Rossoneri missing in this first part of the season?

“It’s early, 26 games to go. But today yes, I say the two of them: but more because Milan and especially Napoli, who would be as strong as them, have problems. As for Milan, looking at it against PSG it seemed that the French were having problems…

“But they are missing something up front: the weight of the goal is too much on Leao and Giroud, who is performing miracles upon miracles upon miracles. Inter and Juventus have four strikers who can score, Milan don’t.”

And Napoli?

“I can tell you the three questions I asked myself. Isn’t the football philosophy too different from that of Spalletti? If you get to coach an almost perfect, ready team, isn’t it better to change as little as possible?

“I answer more yes than no, even if every coach wants to put something of himself into it: but if you don’t put it in straight away, the world won’t fall apart. And in the meantime maybe win a few more games. Why remove Osimhen and Kvara in decisive moments of matches that must necessarily be won?

“Either they ask me, or I never take them away: with them, especially Osimhen, you almost always start from 1-0. I’m curious to see Mazzarri. Will he play a three-man defence? I don’t think so: he will play 4-3-3, he will never take away Kvara and Osimhen and Napoli will do well, they will reach the Champions League.”
