CM Punk Reveals Surprise Details On ‘Burying The Hatchet’ With Triple H, Current State Of Relationship With Roman Reigns

During an in-depth conversation this week, CM Punk “peeled the curtain back” on several behind-the-scenes questions, including his current relationship with WWE head of creative Paul “Triple H” Levesque and top star Roman Reigns.

CM Punk remains one of the professional wrestling industry’s great lightning rods for discussion despite rarely giving long-format interviews with media outlets. He has been viewed as one of the business’s greatest renegades and on the rare occasion he speaks publicly away from the ring his opinion spreads like wildfire.

That was again the case on Monday when he appeared on MMA Fighting’s “The MMA Hour” hosted by veteran MMA journalist Ariel Helwani. During his nearly two-hour-long chat, he spoke on many topics, including his fallout with AEW and their CEO Tony Khan. However, he also talked about mending fences with decision-makers in WWE.

While going into depth about the events that led to his shocking return to the company after a decade away, CM Punk revealed the huge role President Nick Khan played in his return but also a major meeting between him and the man overseeing WWE’s content, Triple H. A person many have assumed he had major issues with.

“When I spoke to [Triple H0, that’s when the ball really got rolling because it was a very; I asked him if he wanted to talk on the phone, and he said, ‘No, I would actually rather like to FaceTime you so I can see you.,'” Punk said. “And I was like, ‘Oh, that’s interesting.’ And we just talked about a whole lot of stuff and about stuff that was at one point serious to probably both of us that is silly now. And we just laughed, buried a hatchet.

“And then we started talking business. And I was like, ‘Man, this is like Thanksgiving. I don’t want to bother you. You’re with your girls. We can talk about it later’. But then I was just like, ‘Well, Friday, and then the show’s Saturday.’ It all got done very, very fast. My lawyer was not stoked to be working overtime on Thanksgiving,” he said with a laugh.

What is the current situation between CM Punk and Roman Reigns?

While there has been a lot of speculation about a schism between Punk and Levesque that the multi-time WWE champion believes was never as serious as some may have thought, top stars like Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns have been open about their issues with the Chicago native and how he handled his departure from the company, and the things he has said about WWE since.

With Reigns having massive influence within the company, Helwani asked about his relationship with the long-reigning WWE champion, since CM Punk has hinted at a clash between the two following his return in November. Reigns has appeared uninterested in the possibility, but it is unclear if that is just him staying true to his character or being honest.

However, during his Monday appearance, the 45-year-old suggested there isn’t a problem between the two that could derail a future matchup pitting the pair of WWE greats against each other in the future.

“It’s all business, baby. I’m not here to make friends,” he said. “I have some friends from my prior ten years. If I make friends along the way, that’s sprinkles on top of the cupcake. I’m here to do business and make money. The ironic thing about that, you wind up becoming friends with the people you make money with.”
