Following his thunderous return at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames, former WWE Champion CM Punk will make his way to Nashville, Tennessee for WWE Raw later tonight, marking his first appearance on the red brand in nearly ten years.

Punk's last Raw appearance occurred on January 20, 2014 -- one week before he infamously walked out of WWE. On January 27, Punk was slated to face Cesaro, who is now known to AEW fans at Claudio Castagnoli. Unfortunately, that match never materialized, as Punk exited the building before Raw got underway. Though his match with Cesaro never came to be, Punk's last Raw match, which took place one week before, was against another current AEW talent, AEW World Trios Champion Billy Gunn.

In early January, Punk and Gunn were briefly aligned, as the New Age Outlaws (Gunn & Road Dogg) helped "The Second City Saint" even the odds against The Shield (Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, & Roman Reigns). Punk, Gunn, and Road Dogg then teamed up to take on The Shield in six-man tag team competition. However, as Punk reached over to tag himself out, Gunn and Road Dogg jumped off of the ring apron, effectively abandoning Punk. With Punk now left to fend for himself, Roman Reigns capitalized, nailing Punk with a spear for the win.

One week after The New Age Outlaws turned their backs on Punk, Billy Gunn stepped up to face Punk one-on-one on the January 20, 2014 episode of Raw. Road Dogg, of course, was standing nearby at ringside. Toward the end of the contest, Punk ascended to the top rope, prompting Road Dogg to pull Gunn out of the ring, and out of Punk's path. Punk then proceeded to take Road Dogg out at ringside. Upon re-entering the ring, Gunn attempted to hit Punk with his Famouser, but was instead greeted with a GTS. With Gunn now grounded, Punk secured a three-count pinfall for the win.

Though Gunn is no longer contracted to WWE, two of Punk's former rivals, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, still are. Currently, Reigns Reigns is the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, while Rollins reigns as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, residing on the Raw brand.

With Punk now back in WWE, it may only be a matter of time before these former Shield members come face-to-face with him again.
